I have a question regarding the first line - I don't understand the purpose of なんでも here. Is it to give it a sense of 'countless times'? Apologies if it is a silly question.

This is not a silly question, I actually forgot to put this in my translation. なんでも in this case means "it seems", indicating uncertainty or speculation. If you wanted to say many times it would be 何度も(なんども)but here this is already captured in the 度々. Thanks for pointing this out!
