お疲れさまでした. Could I ask a quick question about the unusual spelling for the loan word "フォーク"? was it a stylistic choice or simply how it was spelt back then? Thanks!

Hi Cadenza, great question! You're correct. In pre-WWII literature you see a lot of these kinds of variations on loan words. Most of these were standardized to one spelling under the U.S. occupation (1946-1952).

Probably also worth noting that pre-WWII kana was different, and the use of sutegana was pretty rare except for loan words, even then it varied
