As you all know, I’m a big fan of immersion learning. At the same time, I’ve noticed that hardcore immersion learning ‘prophets’ can often be dismissive of others who do not immerse themselves in the same way that they do (very much in line with the one-upmanship that it somehow uniquely pervasive in Japanese language studies).
One creator who I feel has found the right balance between hardcore immersion and having realistic expectations of oneself and others is Julianne. She created the platform Leafling Learns and is active on YouTube and Instagram.

“(very much in line with the one-upmanship that it somehow uniquely pervasive in Japanese language studies)” well-said and incredibly accurate in my experience. What the heck is up with that?? This is one of the reasons I love your site and the approach you take sharing your content and learning experience. The Japanese language learning community could definitely use more positive/supportive/collaborative vibes.
Also, thanks for sharing Julianne’s work! Definitely new to me and looks helpful. Do you ever think about (or have you already?) published a list of immersive or creative study resources?
Thanks Bunsuke-San. It’s nice to have permission to be kind to ourselves and not have to compete on who is more immersive. ;)
Thank you for sharing this info.
