As many of you expressed an interest in Murakami Haruki, for our fifth project I picked Murakami’s short story ‘Midoriiro no kemono’. It’s fun and accessible. Let me know in the comments if you’d be interested in another Zoom call on Sunday 27 March, 3 pm Amsterdam time.
The immersion reading project will run for five days: Tuesday 22 March - Saturday 26 March.
The story is 5 pages long. This works out to 1 page per day. The pace is just an indication, so please don’t feel rushed. You can join at your own tempo, post late, it doesn’t matter. We’re all here to support each other’s progress. Please use the link below to download the pdf file.
At the end of each day (9 pm Amsterdam time), I’ll post a discussion thread. Everyone is encouraged to read along, join the discussions, and post questions to the daily threads. The threads will stay open so that you can respond at a time that is convenient for you, but ideally, the bulk of the group discussion will take place within the 24 hours before next day’s discussion.
Hopefully many of you will be able to join the project. Just give it a shot, what have you got to lose? I look forward to your reading all your comments :)
Hello, Bunsuke! Thank you for oranising another reading project. Five pages look quite manageable. And I personally would like to participate in another Zoom call
The truth is that I was always afraid to participate in these projects but upon reading the first lines and realizing that I could read and understand I felt confident and excited!
I only finished reading the first page today with the help of a friend but I hope I am able to continue reading and catch up to participate on time on the discussions!
Hi Rosma, I'm really to read this! These projects are here to help you through the reading process so if you have questions don't hesitate to post them. Everyone's here to help each other. And please do invite your friends because the more people participate the better :-) Looking forward to reading your thoughts!
I'm also joining in. And would also like to participate in another Zoom call. I will post/join the discussions the following day and not in the evening. Looking forward to it.

Hi Norman, glad to see you'll be able to join the project! Looking forward to talking with you again on Zoom!
I'm in ! For the challenge and zoom call. Can't wait ! Also everyone, be mindful that this may be a daylight savings time change day in your country !
Perfect, and thanks for reminding me! I'll put this in the announcement a day or two before the call.
Definitely going to participate this time.
I just read the first and found that Murakami’s writing style is very easy to follow: it flows well.
Though 3pm Amsterdam is in the morning for me, I’ll try to hop in.
Yes, great to hear you'll be joining! Looking forward to reading your comments!
I'll gladly participate! And I hope this time I'll be able to participate in the zoom call too ^^
Great! Looking forward to finally meeting you :)
