To kick off the new year in good fashion, I though I’d do another immersion reading project. Don’t worry, I picked something much easier than the text from the previous project.
I decided on Edogawa Ranpo’s “Hitori futayaku,” published in 1925. Ranpo is one of the best known authors of mystery novels in Japan. Although some of the words (e.g. 蓄音機 or 細君) are a bit dated, the language itself is surprisingly contemporary. It’s highly entertaining and quite accessible, so it should be a fun read.
The immersion reading project will run for five days: Tuesday 4 January - Saturday 8 January.
The story is about 10 (bunkobon) pages long. This works out to about 2 pages per day. Please use the link below to download the pdf file.
At the end of each day (9 pm Amsterdam time), I’ll post a discussion thread. Everyone is encouraged to read along, join the discussions, and post questions to these daily threads. The threads will stay open so that you can respond at a time that is convenient for you, but ideally, the bulk of the group discussion will take place within the 24 hours before next day’s discussion.
The daily discussions will replace the regular posts for the duration of the project.
Hopefully many of you will be able to join this third project. Just give it a shot, what have you got to lose? I look forward to your responses!
Wonderful ! Thank you for the wonderful opportunity. One of my new year's resolutions is to read outside my comfort zone and sign up to your newsletter, most likely right after this upcoming challenge :)
I left the previous one fairly early on after realizing it was too far above my level to be fun. I'm excited for this one though, and I've been reading other things in the mean time!
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity. At first glance this look doable.
Yeah, of course you can do it! We're all here to help if you get stuck :)

Haha yeah you were not the only one. I certainly tested the limits last time, this should be much more comfortable for most people.
