I will definitely sound like an idiot here, but phrases like 自分が惚れたいような男 and in general Xが好きなY constructions leave me puzzled because I always think "so, who likes whom again?". Normally it is understandable from the context, but still, problematic.

Haha I hope you don't have these kinds of problems!

And you're definitely not the only one when it comes to figuring out who does what in these types of constructions. In the case of 惚れる the formal structure is, for example, 彼は彼女に惚れた.

Yes, this unfolded form is easier. When I want to say something like this I simply say 恋に落ちた, it's less poetic but this way it is almost impossible to mix up the particles ^^
