Oh, I remember this book pretty well. The atmosphere was quite gloomy overall, but the ending hits you in the face so you are left with that 頭の中が真っ白になった~ type of feeling. It's really impressive. I think it made the main character reconsider some of his actions too.

With pleasure~ What about Nagai Kafu for example? I don't know whether you've already posted anything by him, though.

I have only read some of his books so far, but I remember I liked his "腕くらべ". And the author himself was such a cool person living in the 20th century, going abroad, writing books, doing rakugo and befriending geishas. They didn't have rock stars back then, but that's probably what I would call a glamourous lifestyle one hundred years ago.

That's a great suggestion! I don't think I've done one of his works. As you say, he's one of those larger than life type of figures. I'll try to use something of his for tomorrow's post. :)
