I lived in Kyoto from the end of Taisho until the eighth year of Showa, nine years that flew by, and when I think back to it now, I feel like I should have visited the cultural sites of the old capital and the surrounding areas more often.

In addition to a digestible daily "snack" that gradually strengthens my reading, the clean, natural translations show me just how the craft can be practiced. "...that flew by" for 足掛 is a great example of translating at the "idea" plane rather that the word-for-word-swap level my mind operates at. It gives me a sense of permission to elevate the thinking and to stretch my understanding of the words at the same time.
