まだ五時なのに夏の強い朝の光は、カーテンのすきまから一気に差しこんできた。私は毛布を顔までひっぱりあげた。夜の涼しさは消え失せ、次第に、真昼の暑さを取り戻してゆくのがわかった。

Even though it was only 5 o’clock in the morning, the bright morning light of summer immediately shone in through the gap of the curtains. I pulled my blanket up to my face. The coolness of the night had disappeared, and gradually, you could feel the heat of midday returning.
