それから、日本の婦人は勤勉で併せて質素だと云いますが、之も欧米の婦人の活動振りと倹約好きとに比べると、反対に日本の婦人は太抵まだ独立心の鈍い怠け者であり、自分に経済上の生産力が無いくせに親や良人の財力を徒費して美服を欲しがる贅沢婦人であることが明白になります。

Translation:

Japanese women are said to be diligent and modest, but compared with the activities and frugality of women in the West, it is evident that Japanese women are mostly lazy and lack independence, and that, while they have no financial means of production, they are excessively indulgent women who wastefully spend the money of their parents or husbands on pretty clothes.
