安田辰郎は、一月十三日の夜、赤坂の割烹料亭「小雪」に一人の客を招待した。客の正体は、某省のある部長である。
安田辰郎は、機械工具商安田商会を経営している。この会社はここ数年に伸びてきた。官庁方面の納入が多く、それで伸びてきたといわれている。だから、こういう身分の客を、たびたび「小雪」に招待した。

Translation:
On the evening of January the 13th, Yasuda Tatsuo invited one client to a luxurious Japanese restaurant in Akasaka called ‘Koyuki’. This client was in fact a certain department head at a certain ministry.
