Hi Bunsuke-san,

I ordered this book from Kinokunya online in June and have not received my copy! Your post reminded me to find out what happened... I had two thoughts. First, desire the fact that MFA literature (and therefore translation) strongly encourages simple verb tenses --especially the simple past-- I still would consider "I had thought that" for 思っていた to imply that the POV character changed his or her mind... I have not read further than this paragraph though. Also, for 生きることになっても I met say something like: No matter where I was so it doesn't sound like residing... so something like, "I had thought that no matter where I was, no matter how old or what circumstances I'd found myself, that I would never forget her." Enjoyed this post so much.. and congrats on the dissertation!!!
