#300 森鷗外『青年』
鴎外云。小説「青年」は一応これで終とする。書こうと企てた事の一小部分しかまだ書かず、物語の上の日数が六七十日になったに過ぎない。霜が降り始める頃の事を発端に書いてから、やっと雪もろくに降らない冬の時候まで漕ぎ附けたのである。それだけの事を書いているうちに、いつの間にか二年立った。とにかく一応これで終とする。

Translation:
Ogai states: I hereby tentatively end the novel Seinen. I have only written just a tiny portion of what I set out to write, as the story only encompasses 60 or 70 days. Since I started writing from the first signs of frost, I have barely arrived at the time of winter in which the snowfall stops. Even though that is all I have written, two years have flown by. In any case, I shall stop here.
