Vocabulary:
Natsume Soseki (author, 1867-1916)
France
健児 けんじ strong/fearless youth
Translation:
Right as I remembered how a French novelist once compared the sound of the whistle of a steam train to an asthmatic whale and thought to myself how apt this metaphor was, an endless train wriggled its way forward like a long snake and spat out over five hundred fearless young men onto the platform all at once.

May I ask a question. It seems that I can't find "のた” for "蜿蜒", most sources I checked use "えんえん”
