「ふん。それじゃあ偏屈でもなくって、矯飾もしないで、芸術の趣味の分かる、製作の出来る人間はいないと云うのかね」
「そりゃあ、そんな神のようなものが有るとも無いとも、誰も断言はしていません。しかし批評の対象は神のようなものではありません。人間です」

“Hm. So do you mean to say that there are no people who are not narrow-minded, who do not dress things up, who are able to appreciate the aesthetic value of the arts and who are able to write?”

“Well, nobody can say with certainty whether such a godlike person does or does not exist. But the object of criticism isn’t god. It’s man.”
