この浅草のアパートに六畳間十二円のこの部屋を借りたのは、春が終ろうとする頃であった。小さな机に座蒲団一つ、寝る蒲団が上下、洗面器一個、それからあとはトランクのなかにおさまるインキとか灰皿とかコップとか手拭とか茶筒とか、――こんな工合に一々書き立てても造作のない、それだけの荷物を、人間の乗る自動車に詰め込んで大森の家からここへ運んできたのだが、夏に向う時分だったから、寒い季節に備えるものは持ってきてなかった。

Translation:

I rented this tiny twelve Yen room in this apartment building in Asakusa around the end of spring. The only luggage I brought when I moved here from Omori was a small desk, a floor cushion, bedding, a wash bowl, and some smaller items that fit into a suitcase, such as ink, an ashtray, a small glass, a hand towel, and a tea flask. I could count my possessions, which fit into a passenger car, on two hands. But as summer was drawing near at the time of my move, I did not bring anything for the winter season.
