日本、日本人、日本語、日本文学等々、当たり前のように、わたしたちは「日本」といい、自分たちをあらわす国の名（国号）として何ら疑わずにいる。しかし、その名がどういう意味をもつかということについて、共通の認識をもっているであろうか。
