おれは沼のほとりを歩いてゐる。
昼か、夜か、それもおれにはわからない。唯、どこかで蒼鷺の啼く声がしたと思つたら、蔦葛に掩はれた木々の梢に、薄明りの仄めく空が見えた。

Translation:

I was walking along the edge of the swamp.

I did not even know whether it was day or night. But, just as I thought I heard the cries of a grey heron in the distance, I saw the dim twilight sky above the ivy-covered tree tops.
