#215 小川未明「長ぐつの話」
あるところに、かわいそうな乞食の子がありました。
さびしい村の方から、毎日、町の方へ、ものをもらいに追い出されました。けれど、小さな足には、なにもはくものがなかったのです。子供は跣足で、長い石ころの多い道を、とぼとぼと歩かなければならなかったのでした。

Translation:
There once was a place where there was a poor beggar child.
Every day, he was chased out of his desolate village in order to beg for things in the city. But he had nothing to wear on his tiny feet. The child had to trudge along the long, pebbly road barefoot.
