女性の泣く姿は、一種刺戟的な風情のあるものだ。長い睫毛が濡れて、黒くきらめいている女の瞳を、彼は美しいと思って眺めた。と同時に、その涙につながる女の心を、やはり平凡なあたりまえの女のものであったか、と見てしまう。

Translation:

The sight of a woman weeping has a kind of stimulating air to it. Staring at the woman, he thought that her long wet lashes, and her deep black, glistening pupils were beautiful. At the same time, the woman’s heart connected to those tears appeared to him as that of an ordinary, stereotypical woman.
