その月見草の太い株が、植木屋の若い職人が腰に挟んでいた剪定鋏で扭じ切られているのを見たとき、私は胸がドキドキして、口が利けなかった。私は自分の全身から血の引くのがよくわかった。

Translation:
When I saw the thick stalks of the evening primrose being cut off with the pruning shears that the young gardener had attached to his hip, I felt my heart pounding in my chest and was unable to utter a word. I felt the blood withdraw from my entire body.
