Translation:
Mishima So you mean to say that, in any case, you refuse to bring it into reality. Your thought is to refuse to bring your actions themselves into reality in order for them to equate to beauty. Do you feel your actions do not have to be related to beauty? Can they be completely separate from beauty?
Member E Sure, they can be separate.
Member ? It’s not clear what you mean by beauty.
Mishima So it’s fine if they’re unrelated. At least, that’s what you’re saying. Because up to this point we haven’t defined what beauty is. So beauty can only exist as a concept. This is a simple-minded argument. And if beauty ventures even one step beyond its conceptual realm, it is corroded by reality, and beauty is no longer beauty. People have been saying that forever. So, in short, in a moralizing tone you tell me ‘Mishima, if you insist on talking about beauty, you had better not ignore its corrosion by reality’. That’s all you’re saying, right? That means that, to you lot, beauty isn’t a serious issue at all. It’s no different than a butterfly or a dragonfly in a glass box.
