#139 池澤夏樹「スティル・ライフ」
この世界がきみのために存在すると思ってはいけない。世界はきみを入れる容器ではない。
世界ときみは、二本の木が並んで立つように、どちらも寄りかかることなく、それぞれまっすぐに立っている。
きみは自分のそばに世界という立派な木があることを知っている。それを喜んでいる。世界の方はあまりきみのことを考えていないかもしれない。
Vocabulary:
池澤夏樹 いけざわなつき Ikezawa Natsuki (author, 1945-)
世界 せかい the world
容器 ようき container, receptacle
寄りかかる よりかかる to lean on…, to rest on…
喜ぶ よろこぶ to be happy, to rejoice
Translation:
You must not think this world exists for you. The world is not a receptacle for you.
The world and you are like two trees standing next to each other, both standing up straight, one never leaning toward the other.
You are aware of the fact that you have a great tree, the world, standing by your side. You are glad it is there. But perhaps the world does not think of you all that much.

いけざわ 【池生 || 沢澤】
池沢>池澤>生沢>生澤
どちらも ✔both ✘either
世界はきみを入れる容器ではない
↳ This particular phrase was challenging for me, the を particle does a lot of work and confused me quite a bit. The topic は marks the I.O. and 君 is both the subject and D.O.
"To pour yourself out into the world".
I can't quite agree w/ the author on this one.
