Vocabulary:
Yoshimoto Banana (author, 1964-)
Secchan (nickname of female protagonist)
単に たんに just, only, simply
お礼に おれいに as a thank you
Iwakura-kun (family name of male character)
受け取る うけとる to take, to understand, to interpret
Translation:
“In that case I want to have hotpot, but it’s boring eating alone at home so do you want to come over to my place for dinner, Secchan?”
All I said was “You covered for me at work so much, I’ll treat you to something with my salary as a thank you.”
And that was the reply that Iwakura-kun gave me.
When a boy who lives alone invites me like that, I’m not sure how I should interpret it.
