彼はいつもそうなのだ。一緒に話していても、ソファの席が空かないか、視線は常に油断がない。そして、空いたと知るや、どんなに重要な話をしていても必ずそこに移動する。一度、なぜそんなにソファに固執するのか聞いたことがある。だって、同じお金払っているのにもったいないじゃない、という答えだった。

Translation:

He always did this. Even in the middle of a conversation, his would always be on the lookout for a seat on the sofa. And the moment he noticed one became available, he would always move seats, no matter how important the conversation. I asked him once why he was so obsessed with sitting on the sofa. “Well, if we’re going to pay anyway, it’s a waste not to sit in the good seats, isn’t it?” he replied.
